AAW Best of 2017: #1 Christopher Daniels vs. The Shark
December 20, 2017
In an Australian first, the Ring of Honor World Championship was defended in Australia against an Australian. There was only one man for the job, so at Anniversary XI ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels took on Andrew ‘The Shark’ Carter.
Christopher Daniels was making his AAW return, after defeating James Grace for the AAW World Championship back in 2011. In 2017 Daniels achieved he greatest career success, defeating Adam Cole for the ROH World Championship in Las Vegas. In front of a packed house in Rockingham Daniels was looking to prove to a global audience that he was the best in the world.
The Shark had something to prove to that same global audience, although he has had unparalleled success against house hold names such as Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, Tommy Dreamer and London & Kendrick, his loss to Alberto Del Rio at Anniversary IX still haunted him.
The bout itself was everything you would expect from a ROH World Championship match. After each man through everything they had at the other, it was the veteran instinct of Christopher Daniels that allowed him to hit ‘Angels Wings’ to retain his Championship. Daniels had clearly developed an immense respect for Shark, thanking him for the match and thanking Australia and the AAW audience for being a part of history.
