The Shark and James Grace have had arguably the most storied rivalry in AAW history. AAW Total Chaos was billed as the culmination of over a decade of drama, and it did not disappoint. Marc Midas’ caveat of career verses career ensured that one of AAW’s cornerstone competitors would be gone for good following the three count.
The emotion of the match worked the AAW audience into a frenzy even before the two men touched. It was clear that both were going to leave nothing in the ring.
The match itself was everything you could have expected and more from two of Australia’s top talents, pulling out classic offence as well as innovating ingenious ways to incapacitate their greatest rival. In the end though, there was only way this perfect storm to cease; Shark’s superkick square to the jaw of his former student, friend and fiercest opponent.
After James Grace’s shoulders were counted to the mat for his final fall, it was clear that in the catharsis of a career ending moment he reflected on everything. As the crowd showered Grace with applause and appreciation for ten years of unforgettable matches and moments, the former friends were united once more with a handshake and a hug.
As we look to 2018, the AAW audience is left to wonder, what will the AAW landscape look like without James Grace; and what is next in the legendary career of The Shark?
